Are The Clubs Doing Enough To Help Young Players Rejected By The Football Academies?

Image
Research carried out in 2015 by Dr. David Blakelock of Teeside University suggested that 55% of young players were showing signs of psychological distress after being let go from a football academy. After many years of mental health issues following his rejection by a Premier League football club’s academy, a young, 16 year- old took his life in 2013. According to the coroner present at the inquest, the English football youth development system is rife with potential dangers for these young players. These professional clubs are incredibly ambitious and commercialized.  It is unlike anything the layman imagines it to be – fun perhaps, like playing for Thunderbolt casino bonuses. They take on thousands of boys from the age of 8 and put them into very rigorous, four times a week training.   This system was first authorized by the Football Association’s “Charter for Quality” some 20 years ago. ...

Moses Makes Liverpool’s Worst Signings List

Image
Former Nigeria international Victor Moses has been included in a list of Liverpool’s terrible signings made under current Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers. The eleven-man list was compiled by talkSPORT.com. Moses, 29, joined Liverpool on loan from rivals Chelsea ahead of the 2013/2014 season. But after scoring just one goal in 19 appearances in all competitions, Moses returned to Chelsea after the end of the loan. Commenting on Moses’ time at Anfield, talkSPORT.com wrote: “It seemed unthinkable for Chelsea to let a decent player in Moses play for rivals Liverpool on loan in the 2013/14 season. However, any concerned Chelsea fans needn’t have worried as Moses really struggled to make an impact in a season on Merseyside. “Moses scored on his Reds debut, a well-placed finish at Swansea but that was his only goal for Liverpool. “Those slightly more obsessive Kopites will remember Moses essentially missing an open goal with a fresh air shot on that infamous ‘Crystanbul’ night where Liverpo...
